Yard Waste
The City will pick up bagged grass clippings and leaves that are placed in large
biodegradable bags (No Plastic Bags). Or if loose the grass clippings and
leaves must be placed in a neat row between the curb and sidewalk. NOT in
the street. Residents should call 443-2917 to be placed on the pick up list.
Grass Clippings
It is illegal to place grass clippings in the road and on sidewalks. The
ordinance and State Law will be enforced.

Tree Limbs, sticks and shrubbery
The City will pick up limbs that are a maximum of 6ft in length and no larger
than 3 inches in diameter. Limbs, sticks and shrubbery must be separated and
placed in manageable piles between the curb and sidewalk. NOT in the street.
Piles should be no higher than 3 feet tall and placed parallel to the street.
Residents should call 443-2917 to be placed on the pick up list. The City will
not pick up limbs cut by a hired contractor.
If a resident abuses the service or the guidelines are not followed, this service
will discontinue for that resident. It is at the discretion of the employee to
refuse pickup.
Burning
The City of Sparta allows residents to burn yard waste.
It shall be unlawful to build or light any bonfire close to any building or other
structure, as to endanger the building or structure, or on any public street,
sidewalk or pavement. Open burning shall be permitted, except as provided
by state law and regulations. No open fire outside a building shall be started
or permitted to burn after sunset or before sunrise of any day.
A yard waste dumpsite for city residents is located at the north city lake
located on Mound Street. Only yard waste is accepted. All waste must be
emptied from its bags or containers. The site is open daily during daylight
hours.
